Customer Value and Affordability
The Value We Provide
At ITC, our promise is simple: reliability you can count on, delivered by our local utilities that work each day to make communities more resilient and ready for the future on their terms.
Despite being just a portion of customers’ electric bills, ITC’s transmission systems serve as the backbone of the grid and cost-stabilizing force for households and businesses. We believe top-tier reliability is the baseline—not the finish line. That is why we plan, build and operate the grid to unlock value beyond reliability. ITC’s transmission systems unleash the lowest-cost energy into the market, helping to protect customers from the volatility of extreme weather and rising energy prices.
Top-Tier Reliability Drives Customer Savings
ITC’s transmission systems consistently rank among the top in North American benchmark surveys. This high performance demonstrates our commitment to operational excellence and translates into tangible savings for customers. Read more.
Securing the Midwest’s Energy Future
In the pursuit of a more affordable and reliable energy future, inadequate transmission capacity remains a major challenge. After decades of flat demand, U.S. electricity consumption is growing again, with the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) projecting approximately 2% annual growth in 2025 and 2026, driven largely by data centers and new manufacturing. Meeting this demand requires expanding access to low-cost energy resources while keeping pace with generation retirements.
As a leading transmission operator, ITC addresses infrastructure constraints and grid congestion through targeted investments and operational excellence. By unlocking additional transmission capacity, ITC enables more low-cost energy to reach consumers, reducing energy costs and fuel expenses while increasing flexibility in the generation mix. ITC’s MISO LRTP Tranche I and 2.1 projects are on track to deliver $45.2 billion in economic benefits over the next 40 years.

Enabling Competitive Markets
A robust and flexible transmission grid drives competition in the wholesale energy market and allows customers to access the lowest-cost generation resources.

Speed to Power: Connecting Customers to New Generation Faster
ITC leads MISO companies in connecting new generation sources to the system, outpacing peers in MISO. This, coupled with adherence to regulatory policies, is facilitating the swift transition to America’s all-of-the above energy approach and ensuring that millions of consumers have access to the lowest-cost energy available in the marketplace. Through 2025, ITC has delivered critical interconnections to approximately 16 gigawatts (GW) of generation facilities faster than non-ITC companies across MISO. This accelerated process enables customers to access lower-cost options sooner than ITC’s competitors. By accelerating interconnections, ITC unlocked an estimated $17—35 million in savings through 2025, driving lower energy prices and enabling 100 extra days of cost-efficient power from resources connected across ITC’s footprint.
Economic Impact
The impact of transmission investment goes beyond delivering power. We’re committed to the communities we serve by ensuring reliable energy for homes and businesses and supporting local economic development.
Putting Ratepayers First
Recognizing that we are in the midst of a transformative generation shift and heightened demands on the transmission system, ITC, as an industry leader, acknowledges the necessity to consistently meet obligations to customers, regulators and lawmakers. Embodying an enterprising approach to business, ITC is dedicated to continual improvement. Our culture fosters innovation in day-to-day operations. This commitment has resulted in significant savings of more than $680 million for customers, a testament to ITC’s unwavering dedication to excellence and advancement in the energy transmission industry.
ITC has achieved more than $465 million in planning related cost efficiencies since 2017, including over $25 million in 2025, by taking a disciplined and innovation-focused approach to system planning. This approach encompasses extending asset life, avoiding unnecessary rebuilds, consolidating project scopes and optimizing routing through strategic line placement and corridor selection. Rather than defaulting to new construction, ITC prioritizes innovative solutions that deliver significant savings. In 2025, ITC Midwest proposed a capacitor bank solution instead of rebuilding a transmission line, avoiding approximately $10 million in costs. Another project replaced new construction with an existing line rebuild, saving roughly $5 million. Earlier, during 2023–2024, ITCTransmission leveraged advanced technologies—including the Ampjack tower raising system and reconductoring—to save approximately $50 million by avoiding a full line rebuild.
