City of Nevada (IA) Awarded Power of Connection Community Grant

NEVADA, Iowa (April 14, 2023) – An initiative to create a new industrial park in Nevada to facilitate future economic growth has received a $5,000 Power of Connection grant jointly administered by ITC Midwest and the Iowa Rural Development Council.

The Nevada Economic Development Council (NEDC) faced a pivotal decision point in industrial development in their community. The City of Nevada in partnership with the NEDC has identified more than 100 acres of land that could be annexed into the city. The site has the potential to be served with all needed utilities and could have rail capabilities as well.

“The Power of Connection grant will support efforts to analyze a large area of land so that we can target our development efforts. The results of this analysis will allow us to focus on tracts of land most desirable for industrial development,” said NEDC Executive Director Brenda Dryer.

“We appreciate the ITC partnership in moving this important initiative forward.” The grant program, launched in 2019, is intended to help fund feasibility studies, strategic planning and non-construction/equipment elements of a rural project. In Nevada, the ITC Midwest funding will be used to enlist the services of a civil engineer to analyze drainage, wetlands and soil, in addition to providing a recommendation regarding suitability for industrial development.

“Continued industrial growth is important to foster economic growth in rural communities. Investing in the analysis of the desired development site provides the NEDC new opportunities for growth and enhanced quality of life,” said ITC Midwest President Dusky Terry. “Moving forward with this initiative will ensure the community continues to thrive into the future.”

The Power of Connection community grant program is an initiative of ITC Midwest and the Iowa Rural Development Council (IRDC). This innovative economic development program is designed to pair rural communities seeking assistance with IRDC resource teams. Those teams drive both community conversations and solution development for problems or projects.
