ITC Midwest Provides Recreational Electric Wheelchairs to Iowa Veterans
April 29, 2025 | ITC Midwest
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 29, 2025) – ITC Midwest today presented recreational electric wheelchairs to two Iowa veterans – Bret Miller of Center Point and Dave Thiele of Ankeny – whose overall quality of life will be greatly enhanced with the additional mobility provided by these units.
For several years, ITC Midwest employees have gathered for a summer charity golf outing to raise money toward the purchase of an Action Trackchair donated through the Iowa Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of American (IPVA). Thanks to the generosity of everyone from ITC and a company match, the group has raised enough money for the purchase of at least one Action Trackchair each year to improve mobility for a veteran. This year, ITC Midwest is presenting an Action Trackchair to Miller and a Zoom All-Terrain Wheelchair to Thiele, who each had their choice of one of the recreational electric wheelchair models. Each unit is valued at approximately $16,000, and these are the eighth and ninth recreational electric wheelchairs to be awarded through the ITC Midwest program.
“ITC Midwest is committed to supporting many worthy nonprofits that directly improve the lives of people throughout our service area,” said ITC Midwest President Dusky Terry. “I’m exceedingly proud of ITC employees for supporting the recreational electric wheelchair program in collaboration with the Iowa PVA. It is truly making a life-changing difference in the lives of the veterans who receive these units.”
“We are sincerely appreciative to everyone at ITC Midwest who graciously donated to the cause of purchasing recreation electric wheelchairs for use by disabled veterans of the Iowa Chapter,” said Paralyzed Veterans of America – Iowa Chapter Executive Director Nikki Stevenson. “These chairs have made it possible for these veterans to do things that would have never been possible without these gifts of independence.”
First developed more than a decade ago, the Action Trackchair is an all-terrain tracked unit that has helped thousands of people worldwide with mobility-related disabilities. The Zoom All-Terrain Wheelchair is an electric unit for recreational use. It provides four-wheel drive performance and speeds up to 12 miles per hour. With the recreational electric wheelchairs, the recipients can enjoy the great outdoors navigating all types of terrain, doing activities they once did or have never been able to do before.
