ITC Commends FERC’s Action to Speed Large Load Interconnection
June 19, 2026 | ITC Holdings
ITC commends FERC for taking an important step to modernize how large energy users connect to the grid amid rapidly growing demands from data centers, advanced manufacturing and other critical industries. With these steps, FERC recognized that incorporating large loads puts downward pressure on transmission costs. We have seen this firsthand in Iowa, where our projected network transmission rate is anticipated to decline 20% by the end of the decade.
FERC also advanced important measures to increase transparency and safeguard customers from subsidizing data center development or bearing the risk of projects that do not materialize. These protections are key to strengthening public confidence in both load growth and infrastructure investment—foundational elements for U.S. economic competitiveness and success in the AI race.
We look forward to working alongside state regulators and stakeholders to advance solutions that strengthen the transmission system and deliver reliable, affordable power for customers.
