ITC Midwest Contributes $1,500 to Support Cambridge Zoning Code and Zoning Map Update

Cambridge, IA (July 15, 2026) — ITC Midwest has contributed $1,500 through a Power of Connection grant to support the City of Cambridge’s update of its zoning code and zoning map. The effort will help city leaders modernize outdated regulations, strengthen community identity and guide responsible development aligned with the Cambridge Tomorrow 2026 to 2036 Comprehensive Plan.

The City of Cambridge adopted its comprehensive plan in February 2026. Developed by the Iowa State University Community Planning Studio, the plan identifies the creation of new zoning regulations and a new zoning map as its highest priority recommendation. With support from ITC Midwest, Cambridge will work with the Mid Iowa Planning Alliance and Region 6 Councils of Government to review existing ordinances, address gaps and inconsistencies, and develop updated zoning standards that reflect best practices and community values.

“This grant will help Cambridge take an important step toward planning for its future,” said ITC Midwest President Dusky Terry. “By supporting the city’s zoning update, we are helping local leaders create a clear and modern framework that supports quality of life, community vibrancy and responsible development.”

The zoning update will include a full review of Cambridge’s municipal code, identification of outdated or unclear regulations, and development of new zoning standards that align with the city’s future land use plan. Once the updated regulations are complete, the city will create a new zoning map to ensure consistency between the code and long-term planning goals.

“As Cambridge works to implement its comprehensive plan, updating our zoning regulations is essential,” said Barb McBreen, chair of the Cambridge Planning and Zoning Commission. “This grant from ITC Midwest provides the support we need to move forward with a thoughtful and community focused process that strengthens our identity and prepares us for future growth.”

The Power of Connection grant will help offset the cost of ordinance review, strategic planning and technical assistance needed to complete this high priority initiative.
