Big Cedar Substation

ITC Midwest’s largest substation to date was energized in March 2026.

Project Summary

ITC Midwest energized the Big Cedar Substation in March 2026 to strengthen the electric transmission system and support growing electricity demand in the area. Located in southwest Cedar Rapids, the substation will initially support 300 megawatts (MW) of electricity load. Future upgrades are expected to support 1,900 MW of load.

The Big Cedar Substation improves system reliability, enhances grid resilience to better withstand extreme weather and supports economic growth across the region.
