Statement on Complaint Targeting MISO LRTP Tranche 2.1

The recent complaint against MISO’s LRTP Tranche 2.1 portfolio attempts to undermine desperately needed transmission development and the long-term benefits it delivers to communities. We urge FERC to swiftly dismiss this complaint.

LRTP Tranche 2.1 was developed through MISO’s open, transparent and FERC‑approved stakeholder process that incorporated extensive input from states, utilities and market participants to ensure the Midwest remains positioned for long-term energy resilience and innovation while providing access to lower-cost generation. The complainants have not met the burden to show any Tariff violation or demonstrated that MISO’s outcome is unjust and unreasonable.

The Tranche 2.1 projects enhance grid reliability and market efficiency across MISO’s footprint. As electric demand in the United States increases significantly and the country works to lead in artificial intelligence, Tranche 2.1 projects are particularly vital to accommodate this level of load growth, strengthening regional reliability and preparing the grid for 24/7, high‑load uses, like data centers.

This portfolio marks a crucial investment in our region’s transmission infrastructure and a commitment to protecting access to affordable, reliable power for our region, especially against unprecedented demand and extreme weather events. Given the extensive collaboration from states, utilities, and market participants to ensure long-term energy resilience and innovation in the Midwest, this complaint must be dismissed.
