ITC Michigan, through its ITC Transmission subsidiary, is upgrading its 6.4 mile, 120,000 volt (120 kV) Southfield – Sunset transmission line that serves the Farmington, Farmington Hills and Southfield, Mich., communities. This project will improve the reliability of high-voltage electrical service in the area by replacing the current 120kV double-circuit towers with 230 kV double-circuit monopoles.
The new monopoles will allow longer spans between poles, reducing the total number of poles along the route. Work began in the fall of 2015 and was completed in spring 2016.
