Black Hawk - Hazleton 345 kV Line (MVP 4)

ITC Midwest built the Black Hawk-Hazleton 345 kV line from ITC’s Hazleton substation in Buchanan County, Iowa, to an interconnection with a MidAmerican Energy line in Black Hawk County. The line is co-located on structures along the same route with an existing 161 kV line.

Multiple Benefits
The Black Hawk–Hazleton line is a segment of MVP 4, one of 17 transmission projects that MISO, the independent transmission organization for the 11-state region that includes Iowa, studied and designated as a “Multi-Value Project” (MVP). The Black Hawk– Hazleton line brings four major types of benefits to northern Iowa and the rest of the MISO region: improved reliability, expanded access to generation sources, increased system efficiency, and economic investment. This line was completed in August 2015.
