Keeping Utility Workers Safe on the Road

It may seem obvious, but many drivers are not aware of the dangers utility workers face each day while working along the side of busy roads and highways. This summer, ITC Midwest joined a combined effort with other Iowa utilities and the Iowa Department of Transportation to educate drivers on the state’s Move Over or Slow Down law, and how it contributes to safer work zones for everyone.

While each state has a Move Over Law, only 12 include protections for utility vehicles. On July 1, Iowa expanded its Move Over or Slow Down law to include utility trucks and garbage and recycling trucks that have flashing lights.

The joint campaign asks Iowa drivers to make a pledge to protect the safety and welfare of motorists and utility employees working along Iowa’s roadways. Join us and thousands of drivers across the state. Take the pledge to “Move Over or Slow Down” and keep Iowa’s utility workers safe.
