Giving Back
Looking back on 2018, I’m very proud of the ITC Michigan team and what we’ve accomplished for customers, communities and charitable organizations across the state.
This year we continued to drive value for customers, investing in projects that reduce congestion, connect new generation, and improve system reliability to ensure that our customers can keep the lights on in communities across Michigan. For example:
- In Lapeer County and Calhoun County, we’re rebuilding aging lines to support greater reliability and capacity across the lower part of the state.
- In Frenchtown Twp. we’re wrapping up the installation of a Static Var Compensator (SVC) at Toll Road Station that will help ensure voltage stability.
- In Ann Arbor, our new Apex – Phoenix line is nearing completion and will support greater reliability in the area.
- In Fairgrove Twp., a new substation will facilitate more renewable generation, while in Dearborn another substation project is supporting the expansion and related energy needs at Ford Motor Company’s world headquarters.
Projects like these help keep our Michigan systems strong and among the top 25% of utilities for reliability performance.
Beyond providing reliable transmission service, ITC is actively involved in many communities across the state. Just as our lines, towers and stations remain in the community for many years, we maintain an ongoing commitment to working with residents, businesses and local leaders to foster long-lasting, mutual partnerships. We actively engage in local meetings, events, festivals and conferences in places like Traverse City, Cadillac, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Alpena and Sterling Heights, to name a few.
That commitment extends to supporting charitable organizations that strengthen our communities and provide services to those in need. This year, ITC has awarded more than $700,000 in charitable grants and corporate giving to organizations across the state, including Vista Maria to provide books for at-risk youth, Michigan Technological University to support the ECE Learning Center, JVS, which provides employment opportunities to safely recycle televisions and monitors, The Rainbow Connection, which makes dreams come true for children with life threatening diseases, and Homes for Our Troops, which builds and donates specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post – 9/11 veterans.
Behind these efforts is a dedicated team of ITC planners, project managers, system operators, maintenance crews, customer relations representatives, government and community liaisons, and many others who live, work and give back in our communities. You’ll see a few of their stories in this newsletter.
On behalf of the entire ITC Michigan team, thank you for making us part of your community and best wishes for a safe, happy and healthy holiday season!
Sincerely,

Simon S. Whitelocke
