NOVI, Mich., January 9, 2014 – High-voltage transmission line reconstruction in the Huron National Forest by Michigan Electric Transmission Company (METC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of ITC Holdings Corp., will impact two snowmobile trails in portions of the Huron National Forest in Iosco and Alcona counties this winter.
From January 2014 through the end of March, heavy construction equipment and materials will be active on sections of two trails and adjacent access roads from 7:30 a.m. Mondays through 5:30 p.m. on Fridays.
This construction activity could represent a safety concern for snowmobilers. Be advised that conditions on these sections of trail may not be suitable for snowmobile traffic.
The affected trails are:
- Au Sable Trail: Transmission line reconstruction will be underway along Au Sable River Road in Alcona County, from Bamfield Road near the Alcona Dam to a point approximately one mile south to the intersection of Camp 10 trail where the snowmobile trail turns east.
- Five Channels Trail: Construction vehicles will use the Five Channels Trail access road to reach the construction area for a distance of approximately 1.5 miles, from a point west of M-65 to the point where the trail turns off the access road to the north.
Affected areas of the trails will be marked with signs alerting snowmobilers to the construction activity and the presence of construction workers. Flaggers will be posted at each end of the Five Channels Trail access road where construction vehicles will be traveling.
