Ron Hinsley
Vice President, Information Technology and Chief Information Officer
Ron Hinsley is the Vice President, Chief Information Officer, Fortis, Inc., and Vice President, Information Technology and CIO for ITC Holdings Corp, the largest independent transmission owner/operator in North America. He leads all Information Technology (IT) activities, including cyber security initiatives, and supports all corporate applications including the Transmission Management System and Enterprise Resource Planning for ITC.
Mr. Hinsley created the cyber security program for ITC. Through his leadership, ITC is regarded as one of the country’s leaders in cyber security and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection compliance. He works closely with the Kansas Fusion Intelligence Center to better understand the cyber security landscape and evolving threat environment.
Mr. Hinsley has more than 25 years of information systems experience in the energy industry. He joined ITC in January 2013 from Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation, the operators of the Wolf Creek Generating Station in Kansas. In that role, he managed all information services strategy and operations, as well as NRC cyber security compliance and IT governance functions. Prior to his role at Wolf Creek, Hinsley served as Vice President and CIO for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the former Aquila, Inc. He also served as a North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) CIP-compliance consultant for CPS Energy, where he implemented a NERC CIP-compliant infrastructure to serve the company’s energy delivery operations.
Throughout his career, Mr. Hinsley has provided IT leadership in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. He has developed comprehensive IT strategies to better align service delivery with company objectives, and has covered a range of energy sectors including integrated utility, nuclear generation, market operations and independent system operations, supporting initiatives such as NERC CIP, NRC 10 CFR 73.54, SmartGrid, advanced metering, demand response and renewable energy tracking and forecasting.
Mr. Hinsley currently sits on the CEO Advisory Board for AMPEX Corporation, a Colorado Springs, CO, corporation and is a board member of the Ascension Providence Park Hospital Foundation in Novi, MI. He is a current member of the Michigan CIO Kitchen Cabinet and is a former member of Michigan Governor Rick Snyder’s Cyber Security Council.
Hinsley holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of St. Mary in Omaha, Nebraska.
