IOWA LAKESIDE LAB RECEIVES SUPPORT FROM ITC MIDWEST

MILFORD, Iowa – September 30, 2010 – The environmental education programs of the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory in Milford will get a boost thanks to a contribution from ITC Midwest LLC. ITC Midwest, which owns and operates the electric transmission system in the region, contributed $2,000 to the Friends of Lakeside Lab in support of the Lab's public outreach efforts.

Since 1909, Lakeside Lab has helped people "study nature in nature," according to Iowa Lakeside Lab Executive Director Peter J. van der Linden.

"Lakeside's programs are a popular way for children and families to enjoy the outdoors while learning about nature and the environment at the same time," van der Linden said. "This gift will touch hundreds of lives, especially the children who are coming here in increasing numbers for environmental and science education programs."

ITC Midwest Area Manager Troy Weary said the company is pleased to support such a recognized regional program.

"Lakeside Lab provides great opportunities for children and families to enjoy the outdoors," Weary said. "Given ITC's commitment to environmental stewardship, this is a very appropriate partnership for us."

ITC Midwest has been active in the area since acquiring the electric transmission lines from Alliant Energy's Interstate Power & Light Co. subsidiary in December 2007. In Dickinson County, ITC has connected the Lost Lakes Wind Farm and is currently working to rebuild a 69 kV line that runs from the company's Triboji substation west of West Lake Okoboji to Cornbelt Power Cooperative's Milford substation.
